Housekeeping Conference Draws a Crowd!

Sunset Properties hosted a Housekeeping Conference at Sea Trail Resort in Sunset Beach, NC in late February, and drew close to 200 individuals to the event.
Ron Watts, owner of Sunset Properties, welcomed the attendees, and talked about the importance of a strong housekeeping department for our vacationing guests. He later moderated a panel discussion that included three homeowners that shared how important the role of housekeeping is with their rental homes.
The event was developed and coordinated by David Sides, Housekeeping Manager for Sunset Properties. Both Sides and Phyllis Conner, Housekeeping Supervisor for the company, gave presentations during the conference on topics such as updated home standards, house set-ups, and best practices for cleaning a vacation rental home. We appreciated representatives from Brame Speciality Products and Rubbermaid Products leading sessions on Going Green, Microfiber products, and chemicals during the event as well.
Our thanks to Jean Hutchinson, Brad Moock, and Roger Martin for participating on the owner panel. We got great feedback from the attendees on their discussion about the good and bad of the maintenance and cleaning of their respective homes.
Our staff has made a commitment to work toward being the top housekeeping department in the country within the next three years, and this event was a wonderful way to launch the training updates and philosophy to both existing and potential cleaners with Sunset Properties.

"Southerners" in Calabash Worth A Dinner Out!

One of the fun parts about returning to the beach is discovering new places in our area to try for fun or dining. Some of our Sunset Beach vacation guests have discovered Causeway Gourmet-a take-out deli/restaurant on the mainland causeway at our neighboring island of Ocean Isle. It's a lunch-time favorite for many on our staff. Well the proprietors of Causeway Gourmet now have their own full service restaurant. 'Southerners' opened earlier this year, and is on Beach Drive in the heart of Calabash. It's about a 10 minute drive from the island. Dawn and Jonathon have had a chance to expand their delicious entree selection from Causeway Gourmet, and have something for every taste bud. We ate at Southerners recently, and enjoyed it. My wife had their shrimp and grits dish, and I went for the pecan chicken. Our guests had pork chops and the pecan chicken. One tip for salad lovers-they offer full-sized salads that are very good. You won't get a skimpy little side dish! As I said, there's plenty of options on the menu (even for the kids)-enough to bring us back in the future. There's a full service bar in case others beat you in for a table. And the wait staff is made up of locals that were very attentive. We found the entree pricing very reasonable for the area as well. So when you're ready to enjoy a night out for dinner on your next vacation at Sunset Beach, give Southerners a try. I think you'll have an enjoyable evening.

The BIG Snow of 2010

At least, I'm hoping this is "the" big snow of 2010. We got more than our fair share of snow last night in Brunswick County, North Carolina. An early day prediction yesterday put our snowfall amounts up to 7 inches, as the whole office was jumping for joy. Luckily, we didn't get nearly as much as the Weather Channel had predicted. But, it was still a pleasant surprise for all of us who might only see late night flurries this time of year.

I started taking pictures around 7:00 this morning of the snow. By the time I made it out to the bridge, a huge crowd had gathered to snap a shot of what might be the last snowfall the bridge experiences. It's pretty amazing to see snow on a normally beautiful, sunny, and mild beach strand. Enjoy the photos!
