Spend the Holidays at the Beach

I drove off the island today to go pick up my lunch and found myself stuck in a long line of cars while the bridge opened to let sailboats through. I haven’t seen this many cars since early September. The holiday crowd has hit Sunset Beach and will fluctuate back and forth until the New Year. Especially since gas prices are well under $2.50/gallon in most places.

The last few holidays of the year - Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years - brings in a pretty decent crowd. It’s not 80 degrees outside and the ocean doesn’t feel like bath water anymore, but it is mild compared to most places and not snowing. According to the weather channel, we can expect temperatures in the mid-60s tomorrow with bright, sunny skies. It’s the perfect weather for an afternoon stroll on the strand or a family football scrimmage on the beach. How fun would that be on Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day?

Another great reason why Sunset Beach makes the perfect home for the holidays is because you can find affordable island homes to stay in. Prices on all our homes usually take a huge plunge in the off season. Oceanfront homes can be found for over $1500 less than what they cost in the peak summer months. We don’t raise our prices for the holidays like some destinations do. You could be eating Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner on an oceanfront deck while enjoying the simple beauty of Sunset Beach. Take advantage of our free DVD rental service and catch a movie after your day of fun on the beach and family dinner.

Gather up the family and tell them all to meet at the beach this year for the holidays. Try something different other than staying home and looking out the window to “familiar” scenery. See what kind of magic the beach brings to the holidays.

Fort Fisher Ferry Repairs

For those who plan to be using the Southport ferry in the near future:

The Southport ferry that runs to Fort Fisher is closing for two months. Repairs are scheduled in December and January. This will affect many residents who work in Wilmington and commute from the Southport and Oak Island area. Please keep this in mind if you also plan to do some Christmas shopping or traveling in the Southport area. Fortunately, there is an alternate route which runs to Wilmington from Southport by taking Hwy 133 to Hwy 87 into Hwy 17.
